His Majesty The King’s Guard Band and Drill Team (NOR)

His Majesty The King’s Guard Band and Drill Team is the only band within the Norwegian Armed Forces composed entirely of conscripts. 

The Guard Band is divided into two units: the Band Troop and the Signal Troop. The Band Troop is a full symphonic wind band comprising approximately 60 conscript musicians, while the Signal Troop is a marching and fanfare band with around 25 musicians.

Soldiers recruited to His Majesty The King’s Guard typically have a background in bands or equivalent musical training. All candidates must audition to demonstrate their suitability for a place in the band. Those selected are not only accomplished musicians, but also highly motivated and prepared for a demanding period of service.

During their year with the Guard Band, conscripts undergo Basic Military Training, involving extensive physical training, musical development and drill. In addition to their military duties, the guardsmen take part in concerts, military tattoos, ceremonial displays and similar engagements, both inNorway and internationally.
