Knut Anders Sørum (NOR)
Knut Anders Sørum is known for his powerful voice and warm personality.
Sørum has enjoyed a long and varied career since the 1990s, including time in several rock bands, participation in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2004, and serving as vocalist for the Norwegian television show Dancing with the Stars (Skal vi danse) on TV2. Many people, however, know him best as the winner of NRK’s Stjernekamp in 2016. Viewers across Norway were left speechless when the singer from Toten delivered a powerful rendition of Puccini’s Nessun Dorma.
Sørum has released several albums in the style often referred to as “Toten soul,” a genre he is widely credited with pioneering. On his 2013 album Ting flyt (“Things Flow”), he combined American soul music with lyrics in the Toten dialect, earning widespread critical acclaim. In 2021, he released a long-awaited Christmas album featuring mostly original songs written by Sørum himself.
One reviewer famously described his music as “Prøysen meets John Legend.” The comparison is fitting, as both Alf Prøysen, the beloved Norwegian singer-songwriter and folk poet, and John Legend have been major influences on his work.
In 2010, Sørum released the critically acclaimed album PRØYSEN, featuring interpretations of Prøysen’s songs, including an original composition based on the poem “Visa om løgna.” He has also translated John Legend’s “Stay with You” into the Toten dialect, retitling it “Bli ved deg” on the album Ting flyt. It has since become one of his most-streamed tracks.
We look forward to welcoming Knut Anders Sørum to the stage at Norsk Militær Tattoo 2026!
