The Japan Air Self-Defense Force Central Band (JPN)

The Japan Air Self-Defense Force Central Band was established in Tokyo in 1961.

As a military band directly subordinate to the Minister of Defence, the ensemble delivers around 100 performances each year. These include official ceremonies for the Japanese Ministry of Defence, concert appearances across Japan, and participation in international music events.

In 1999, the band made its international debut at the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo in Canada. This marked the first overseas appearance by a band from the Japan Self-Defense Forces—across the Army, Maritime or Air Self-Defense Force.

Since then, the band has appeared at numerous international military tattoo events, contributing to cultural exchange and strengthening international cooperation through music.

We proudly welcome them to the Norwegian Military Tattoo 2026!
