The Royal Norwegian Navy Band (NOR)

The Royal Norwegian Navy Band is based at Karljohansvern Naval Base in Horten and was established in 1820. Together with the Norwegian Armed Forces Staff Band, it is the military band most frequently tasked with official duties on behalf of the Royal House of Norway, the Government and the Storting (Norwegian Parliament). The band also works closely with other military units throughout Eastern Norway.

Renowned for its distinctive character and versatility, the band comprises 27 professional musicians and undertakes engagements both in Norway and internationally. Overseas performances have included appearances in the United States, Vietnam, Russia, France, China and Spain. On several occasions, the band has also deployed to Afghanistan, performing for Norwegian and allied forces.

The Royal Norwegian Navy Band has collaborated with leading artists across virtually all musical genres and, in 2003, was awarded the Spellemann Award (Norway’s highest music honour) in the folk and singer-songwriter category, in collaboration with Erik Bye.
