The Swedish Army Band (SWE)

The Swedish Army Band is the largest of the Swedish Armed Forces’ three professional military bands, comprising 53 permanently employed musicians. The band forms part of the Life Guards in Stockholm and counts the Swedish Armed Forces, the Royal Court and the Swedish Government among its principal clients.

The Army Band is a ceremonial parade band and regularly undertakes engagements including concerts, ceremonies and parades. It frequently performs at major national events, such as formal audiences at the Royal Palace and during state visits. One of the band’s most prominent annual engagements is providing the musical framework for the celebration of Sweden’s National Day at Skansen in Stockholm.

Another key aspect of the band’s activity is leading the guard parade through the streets of Stockholm to the Royal Palace, where the Changing of the Guard takes place. As part of the ceremony, the band presents its display programme, combining music and drill in precise coordination. In addition, the band maintains an extensive concert programme throughout the country, helping to ensure that military music remains a vibrant and visible part of Sweden’s public musical life.

The Army Band is a relatively young ensemble with deep-rooted traditions. Its present form originates from the Army Music Platoon, established in 1982, while drawing on several centuries of military musical heritage. This combination results in a band that is both forward-looking and firmly rooted in tradition, while continuing to develop military music for today’s and future audiences.

We proudly welcome them to the Norwegian Military Tattoo 2026!
